Duwisib Castle was established in 1909, standing in a valley, built by a baron. Most of the materials for building the castle were imported from Germany, and the construction workers were hired from Italy, Sweden, and Ireland. After the outbreak of World War I, the baron joined the German forces and eventually died in battle. His wife never returned to the castle again. After the war, Duwisib Castle was sold to a Swedish man.
In 1970, Duwisib Castle was returned to Namibia and opened to the public in 1991. The castle houses antiques, armor, and paintings from the 18th and 19th centuries. While the exterior of Duwisib Castle may look ordinary, the interior decorations give a sense of comfort. Inside, there are well-preserved bedrooms, lounges, a dining room, bathrooms, and a pergola. The cleverly designed windows allow sunlight to illuminate the rooms, and the thick, sturdy stone walls keep the interior cool and comfortable in summer, while the two fireplaces make winter less chilly. Swords, military swords, and paintings hang on the walls, and the interior decor is exquisite, giving off a sense of novelty.
