Spitzkoppe – Namibia Spitzkoppe Travel Guide

Spitzkoppe is a large mountain entirely made of granite, which is very famous in Namibia and is known as the “National Mountain” of Namibia. Its tall and majestic body stands quietly in the famous Namib Desert and is often described as the “Matterhorn of Namibia.”

The granite that makes up Spitzkoppe was formed approximately 700 million years ago. The highest point of the mountain is 1784 meters above sea level. Interestingly, the terrain around this mountain is all flat, which must be attributed to the magical power of nature. The highest peak of the mountain is about 700 meters higher than the surrounding desert plain. The scenery of Spitzkoppe is quite spectacular, presenting a completely pristine natural landscape with bizarre rock formations, caves, and even rock paintings dating back 2000-3000 years found between the caves. Visitors can climb and hike among the huge rocks, occasionally spotting wild animals passing by not far away. For travelers who love nature, Spitzkoppe is definitely a must-visit place.
