Erbil – Iraq Erbil Travel Guide

Erbil is the fourth largest city in Iraq, located about 80 kilometers east of Mosul, and is also the capital of the Kurdistan Region in northern Iraq. Erbil is also a very ancient city, with human settlements dating back to the 24th century BC.

Erbil is a beautiful city, with its most famous attraction being the Citadel of Erbil, a silent guardian of the region’s long history, standing about 25 to 32 meters above the surrounding ground, making it one of the oldest inhabited places in the world. At night, the lights of downtown Erbil illuminate this ancient citadel, while nearby grand mosques, quaint buildings, and the vibrant Franso Hariri Stadium all contribute to the city’s charming atmosphere. The Textile Museum, established in 2004, houses exquisite textiles produced in the Kurdistan Region of northern Iraq, workshops where textile workers once labored, looms, and embroidery, offering visitors a glimpse into the ancient and refined skills handed down from tribal elder weavers to the younger generation.
