Kharkh Lake, meaning “Black Lake”, is located in the semi-desert area of the Great Lakes Basin in western Mongolia. It is a vast freshwater lake, known as a brilliant gem hidden in the desert, tranquil and elegant, serene and beautiful, highly praised.
Kharkh Lake is 37 kilometers long, 24 kilometers wide, with a lake area of 575 square kilometers, an average depth of 4.2 meters, and a maximum depth of 7 meters. It is surrounded by dense flowers, grass, trees, and delicate sand dunes. With the continuous mountain ranges, vibrant flowers and grass, and enchanting sand dune landscapes around Kharkh Lake, it has become one of the most elegant and picturesque lakes in the desert. The charming Kharkh Lake has become a favorite fishing and swimming destination for local residents. The lake is also a habitat for various wildlife, including wild sheep, wild goats, Gobi bears, jerboas, and wild Bactrian camels living in the desert surrounding the lake.
