Shumen is located in the northeast of Bulgaria. It was known as Kolarovgrad from 1950 to 1965 and is currently the capital of Shumen Province. The city was founded 3200 years ago and boasts a rich and diverse culture and heritage. As the tenth largest city in Bulgaria, it serves as the political and economic center of Shumen Province.

The Shumen Mosque was built in 1744 and is one of the largest mosques in Bulgaria, renowned as a religious landmark.
