Devon House was established in 1881 by Jamaica’s first black millionaire, George Stiebel, in the capital city of Kingston. With a history of 130 years, Devon House spans 11 hectares. Originally the luxurious residence of a millionaire, it now serves as a culinary destination and shopping center in Kingston.
Visitors to Devon House can taste the city’s best ice cream, patties, and gourmet cuisine, purchase local specialties and handicrafts, and enjoy the historic atmosphere of the coffee shops. Its unique style attracts many tourists, showcasing the Jamaica-Georgian era architectural style with classical white buildings exuding a grandeur of the past, displaying very neat and symmetrical lines. In September 1990, Devon House was designated a national monument by the Jamaica National Heritage Trust (JNHT), housing a collection of antiques from Jamaica, the Caribbean, Britain, and France, as well as Jamaican replicas, showcasing a wide variety and complexity of items.
