Kourou is a coastal city in French Guiana, located on the banks of the Kourou River in South America. Kourou was a place of exile for France from 1854 to 1944 and gradually prospered since the establishment of the European spaceport, which later became the Guiana Space Centre, in the nearby area in the 1970s.
The Guiana Space Centre, founded in 1968, the Space Museum (Musée de l’Espace) dedicated to showcasing space and space exploration, and the beautiful Salut Islands are must-visit attractions in Kourou. The serene Kourou River is perfect for canoe excursions, camping by the riverbank, walking along jungle trails, and tasting Shanono’s coffee.
