Maceió, also known as “Massayó”, is an important port city on the Atlantic coast of northeastern Brazil, the capital of Alagoas state. Founded in 1815, the city was established as a municipality in 1839. Nestled between mountains and facing the sea, Maceió’s Yaragua port to the east is hindered by coral reefs, only admitting ships with shallow drafts, while ocean liners anchor offshore beyond the reefs.

Maceió is a paradise with numerous stretches of beaches, where the color of the sea shifts from green to blue, creating an ever-changing spectacle. The seawater is exceptionally clear.
